1 In 25 People Fall Asleep At the Wheel

Drowsy driving is a form of distracted driving that can lead to charges of reckless driving, as the above accident shows. While distracted driving due to cell phone use, texting and surfing the web are “hot topics” right now, drowsy driving actually occurs more often than most people think. According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), one out of every 25 people fall asleep at the wheel.

Fatigued and drowsy drivers have slowed reflexes and impaired decision-making skills that can lead to accidents. The decision to continue driving while drowsy or fatigued is a dangerous decision on the part of the driver. It puts others at risk. If an accident occurs and causes injury or death, the drowsy driver may be held accountable for the losses suffered by others.
