El Faro’s Sister Ship Adrift After Losing Propulsion Off Canadian Coast

El Farro Cargo Ship

There is alarming news out of Canada that the sister ship of the El Faro has lost propulsion and is now helplessly adrift off the coast of Canada. A Coast Guard ship is currently heading to hopefully assist the Northstar, but will not arrive until approximately 4 a.m., according to an article by News 4 JAX.

In October, the El Faro also lost propulsion as it was heading into a category 4 hurricane. The El Faro sunk killing all 33 crewmembers. The MV Northstar is also owned by TOTE Maritime. The ship was heading to Alaska when it lost power.

Pajcic & Pajcic represents families who lost loved ones aboard the El Faro. While the investigation into exactly what happened to the El Faro continues, we do know that among other things the owners failed to repair known problems on the 40-year-old ship before allowing it to set sail into extremely dangerous weather. We will continue to update you with the latest developments on the MV Northstar.
