Report: Logging Truck Driver Who Hit Bradford County School Bus Had History of Driving Violations

The driver of a logging truck that rear-ended a school bus Monday afternoon in Lawtey had incurred five driving violations since 2007, according to a report by News 4 Jax.

Eyewitnesses reported that the truck driver was driving erratically before the crash on U.S. 301, and failed to hit the brakes before colliding with a Bradford County school bus that was making a stop with its yellow lights flashing.

Seven student passengers were taken to area hospitals for treatment, and one of the students suffered serious injuries, according to First Coast News. The bus driver was also hurt in the accident. The Florida Highway Patrol said there were 15 Starke Elementary School students on the bus at the time of the crash.

The driver of the logging truck had a record of violations that included two instances of driving with a suspended license, two speeding infractions and one infraction that involved operating a motor vehicle in unsafe condition, according to News 4 Jax.

Monday’s accident was the most recent in a long series of North Florida crashes involving dangerous logging trucks.

More than 25 years ago, the Jacksonville-based law firm of Pajcic & Pajcic handled its first case involving an accident with a poorly lit logging truck in Putnam County. The firm later represented the victim of a crash involving a logging truck in Nassau County. The case resulted in a $12.9 million verdict. Less than a year after that verdict, a young father was killed in a rear-end collision with a poorly lit logging truck near Jacksonville. The Law Firm of Pajcic & Pajcic represented his survivors and secured a $2 million settlement from the insurance company.
